Winning the Bonefish Lottery

Not really sure what’s the status of the Hawaii Bonefish Tagging Project but back in the day the Nervous Water Fly Fishers crew was helping with the bonefish tagging project in Hawaii. When the project was going on I think I probably personally tagged over a hundred fish but haven’t been tagging in a while. If i'm not mistaken there must be over a thousand fish tagged, I have never caught a bonefish with a tag so I think Daryl catching one is really special. Kind of like winning the lottery but in this case you don’t win anything. Sorry Daryl! I think in all my years of fly fishing I have only seen one bonefish with a tag in it but I couldn’t get that sucker to bite. Here’s the info about this special fish below:

Hey guys, Just wanted to share my latest catch. Had a couple of hours free this morning so I headed down to Hickam. Got this guy tailing in shin deep water. This fish was tagged, my first recapture. Dean, Can you forward the info to Clay and the boys at the shop. Not sure who's running the tagging program now. This fish was tagged with tag no. 1748, 26" fork length, caught 6/6/09, 0915, Hickam. This might be a pretty old fish, I checked my old tagging logs and my tags started out with number 2141 back in 2005. This tag had a lot of growth on it and it looked like it had been on there a while. I would really be interested to find out who first caught this fish, how big it was, and when. Daryl

Tagging info received is as follows:
The oio I caught was just recently tagged 5/1/09 and it was reported at 26.5 inches. No other info was provided.

Although the fish was just tagged and release a month ago, and there wasn't much dramatic info generated, the fact of catching a tagged fish still intrigues me. I think i'll bust out my tagging kit and got to work. Dean-O
